“The Listening Cure”
(i) objective listening,
(ii) empathic listening,
(iii) subjective listening, and
(iv) intersubjective listening.
The indications, scope, and benefits of ‘credulous’ as well as ‘skeptical’ listening will be noted. The impact of these types of listening on the nature of interventions made will also be discussed. Their origins in the developmental matrix of child-parent relationship will be underscored. Following this, variables that can impede listening during clinical work will be discussed.
Lastly, the innovative intervention of refusing to listen to certain kinds of material will be discussed, along with the particular situations that warrant such unusual action from the clinician.
“Trust, shame and the therapist’s self-disclosure in therapy and supervision”
Situations of unintentional acting out of therapist’s feelings via self-disclosure that will not promote the therapeutic process will be discussed as well. Supervision, where unconscious processes and countertransference reactions are worked on, is often experienced as a vulnerable situation regarding shame and humiliation. Building on Winnicott´s notion of “potential space” and “experience which leads to trust”, we will, discuss factors of importance for creating a working supervision characterized by trust and ability to reflect that enable an optimal learning climate.
The participants will be invited to explore their fears to self-disclose negative countertransference and the therapist’s vulnerabilities.
Leading experts in psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and group analysis from all over the world will be joining us in Belgrade.
